Abu Dhabi International airport has reported a 24.8 per cent increase in passenger traffic for August 2014, compared to the same period last year.
Around two million passengers passed through the airport in August, compared with around 1.5 million in 2013.
Abu Dhabi Airports COO Ahmad Al Haddabi said the city is increasingly being seen as a preferred business destination as well as one of the “fastest growing aviation hubs” in the region.
“We constantly work hard on enhancing our services through various initiatives including the capacity enhancement programme, which aims to develop the airport’s current facilities to withstand the increasing number of passengers.”
In August 2014, the top five routes from Abu Dhabi International airport were Bangkok, London Heathrow, Doha, Manila and Bahrain – these accounted for 15 per cent of all traffic.
