Easyjet has put 19 new routes from Berlin Tegel on sale following the purchase of assets from failed carrier Air Berlin.

The low-cost carrier has spent €40 million buying part of Air Berlin’s operations at Berlin Tegel in a deal first announced in October.

Easyjet has announced four domestic German routes from Tegel - Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart – and 15 international routes for the winter season from January 5 to March 24. Plans for the summer 2018 season will be announced in “due course”.

International routes will include Budapest, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Madrid, Milan Malpensa, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Rome, Tel Aviv, Vienna and Zurich.

Thomas Haagensen, managing director of Easyjet Europe, said: “Easyjet is proud to deliver more competition and lower fares to passengers in Germany, particularly on domestic routes where there is currently limited choice.

“Our schedule from Tegel also delivers excellent value for business passengers who will benefit from first wave departures enabling day trips to get passengers back home by dinnertime.”

Easyjet’s purchase of Air Berlin’s operations at Tegel still has to secure regulatory approval. The airline already operates 51 routs from Berlin Schoenefeld.

The airline also announced that it recorded a 8.1 per cent increase in passenger traffic in November when it carried 5.3 million passengers with a load factor of 92.3 per cent. Over the 12 months, Easyjet has increased traffic by 10.3 per cent to 81.3 million.
