Bergen airport to limit wait times with tech

Bergen airport in Norway has turned to the Bliptrack queue management system in a bid to deliver on service level agreements and minimise queue build-up.

The airport is following the example of Avinor sister airports Oslo and Stavanger by using the technology to measure and predict how many people are standing in queues and for how long. Bergen says the minute-by-minute analytics will help airport management respond to heavy traffic at the security checkpoint by opening additional lines.

In addition, Bergen – which recently opened a new terminal with capacity for up to 10 million passengers a year – will share the data collected with passengers, which it claims will reduce stress levels by setting realistic expectations on wait times.

Oystein Skaar, airport director at Bergen airport, said: “The implementation of Bliptrack will help to ensure that passengers experience a quick and easy passage through this stage of the journey, and significantly increase the opportunity for a positive experience throughout the airport.”
