Marriott Hotels’ has announced the shortlist for its “accelerator” programme for new travel technology products that could end up being piloted at the brand’s properties.
Two UK-based technology start-ups, Reward Technology and Mymanu, have been included in the eight-strong shortlist for Marriott’s Testbed project after beating competition from more than 150 companies across 24 countries.
Reward Technology offers personalised digital entertainment and communication through a loyalty card or room key card.
While, Mymanu is developing wireless earbuds called Click offering live voice translation in 37 languages to make it easier for guests and hotel staff to communicate.
The eight short-listed companies will be showcasing their products to a panel of judges in London on August 22-23, who will decide which ones will enter the Testbed programme and have their products tested in Marriott hotels. Georgie Barrat, presenter of The Gadget Show on Channel 5, will be one of the judges.
Other start-ups taking part include Umbo, which turns surfaces into tech interfaces, and Melomind, a headset designed to reduce stress and help people to relax.
