Ryanair announces additional Frankfurt flights

Ryanair planes

Ryanair yesterday announced an additional three aircraft will be based at Frankfurt Main airport from summer 2018, bringing the total number of planes at the hub to ten.

The extra aircraft will allow the low-cost carrier to add 34 routes from Frankfurt Main and one at Frankfurt Hahn, serving more than 4.7 million customers through the airports next year.

Ryanair will offer 38 total routes from Frankfurt Main from 2018, including more flights to Palma and new journeys to major hubs such as Athens, Barcelona, Glasgow, London Stansted, Manchester, Porto and Tenerife. The new route from Frankfurt Hahn is to Plovdiv Airport in Bulgaria, and there will also be more weekly flights to Tenerife.

The move adds to Ryanair’s tension with Lufthansa; the carrier has called for action to prevent its rival from buying out parts of Air Berlin, which is in serious financial trouble.

David O’Brien, chief commercial officer at Ryanair, said: “We are pleased to announce an additional three based aircraft at Frankfurt Main to bring it to a total of ten and an investment of US$1 billion. German customers are booking our winter 2017 seats in record numbers as fares continue to fall, so there’s never been a better time to book a low-fare flight on Ryanair.”
