Star Alliance and Heathrow airport have created a new facility to offer passengers with connecting flights at Terminal 2B (T2B) a faster transfer experience, with all 24 member airlines based at the terminal.
The new facility enables passengers whose flights arrive and depart at T2B to pass through security within the same concourse, which the airport says will save them time on transferring between flights. Furthermore, Star Alliance passengers travelling in First or Business class or holding Star Alliance Gold Status have access to the Air Canada, Singapore Airlines or United lounge, all of which are located in T2B.
Star Alliance and Heathrow say they will now work together to allocate inbound aircraft stands that are close to departing planes so passengers won’t have far to walk to get to their next flight.
Christian Draeger, VP of customer experience at Star Alliance, said: “It is our objective to provide passengers with the best possible Alliance travel experience at Heathrow Terminal. A special emphasis is on optimising the transfer experience through the airport, which is served by more Star Alliance member carriers than any other. Having all member carriers located in the same terminal has allowed us to reduce the minimum connecting time between flights and with the additional security in T2B, transfers via Heathrow Terminal 2 are becoming even more convenient and attractive for our customers.”
Simon Eastburn, director of airline business development at Heathrow, added: “Terminal 2B is now a much faster transfer experience for Star Alliance customers.”
The news comes as Star Alliance is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the launch of a new dedicated website for UK passengers, which was designed based on feedback from frequent flyer programme members, corporate travel managers, product managers and frontline travel agents.
