BMI Regional announces Stansted-Derry service

BMI Regional adds second codeshare with Brussels Airlines

Bmi Regional is to launch a new route between London’s Stansted airport and Derry from mid-May.

The carrier will offer a double daily service (except Saturdays when there will be one flight), with flights going on sale in mid-March, and fares from £44 one way.

Bmi Regional has not yet disclosed the schedules for the route, but said that flights will be “timed to compliment business schedules, making it easy for business travellers to do the round-trip in a day”.

The route is a public service obligation (PSO), and is currently being operated daily by Ryanair. The BBC reported in September last year that the Irish low-cost carrier would be dropping flights from March.

Commenting on the new service Jochen Schnadt, chief commercial officer of Bmi Regional said:

“The North West region of Ireland is undergoing a sustained period of economic growth, and has received significant investment in new jobs and growth projects over the past 12 months. It is important for businesses that the region is well connected to the UK capital and Bmi Regional is proud to be bringing its quality, premium product to this route.

“Whereas previously business travellers between Derry and London have had to stay overnight in the city, they will now be able to commute there and back in a day, saving both money and time, and hopefully resulting in continued economic growth for the Derry region.”
