Marriott Hotels has announced the three winning tech start-ups of its 2017 Testbed accelerator programme. These companies will pilot their innovative solutions at three Marriott properties in Europe, with a chance to grow through expert guidance from industry leaders.
The winners were chosen after being shortlisted from 150 applicants across 24 countries. Eight finalists pitched their ideas to a panel of judges, with the aim of shaping the future of the travel and hospitality experience. Judges included Georgie Barrat, presenter of The Gadget Show, as well as tech industry leaders and senior Marriott figures.
Out of these pitches, the judges chose three winners to test their solutions at Marriott properties.
This UK start-up developed Click – wireless earbuds that offer live voice translation of 37 languages. The technology, which will be piloted at the Frankfurt Marriott, will enable staff to communicate with guests in their native language. It can also be used during meetings and events within the hotel.
This Portugal-based start-up created an AI-powered Chabot designed for the hospitality sector. At its pilot hotel in Regents Park, the technology will enable guests to access a variety of services through Facebook Messenger.
Another Portugal-based developer created smart meters that measure water and electricity consumption, with the ability to provide both staff and guests an analysis of usage. Piloted at the Amsterdam Marriott, the meters will allow guests to track their own consumption and be rewarded for helping the hotel achieve its sustainability targets.
