Vietnam Airlines has reported profits of 2.5 billion VND ($114m) for 2016.
The airline said the record results were helped by strong domestic growth, which helped overcome global challenges such as terrorism in Europe and overcrowded markets.
Pre-tax profits hit a record-high, jumping 140 per cent year-on-year. Its shares jumped 40 per cent on the announcement.
In 2016, Vietnam Airlines operated over 133,000 flights with 20.6 million passengers, an increase of 18.7 per cent from 2015. It also has 45 per cent market share on the key domestic route between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
