Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airport has announced that Uber and Lyft drivers can now pick up passengers from domestic and international terminals.

‘Rideshare’ signs direct travellers to designated areas, but pickups at the baggage-claim area are prohibited.

Passengers will pay a $3.85 fee in addition to normal ride charges. Airport officials confirmed the fee covers permitting, security, maintenance, and other costs related to ride-sharing.

The Atlanta City Council voted in September 2016 to allow Uber and Lyft to operate officially at the airport. Previously, the ride-sharing services were allowed to drop passengers off at Atlanta International, but were legally banned from picking up at the airport, although the rule was widely flouted.
