Air France KLM has partnered with blockchain specialist Winding Tree to develop the technology for the travel industry.

The airline group says the aim of the agreement is to use blockchain technology to provide a “more advantageous travel offer” for customers that will also be “more profitable for suppliers, in particular by reducing the number of intermediaries”.

Through Winding Tree’s B2B platform, users will benefit from a range of offers on flights, hotels and other services and will be able to offer more personalised travel solutions, according to Air France KLM.

The group will support Winding Tree’s development by testing the technology and providing feedback.

Sonia Barriere, EVP of strategy and innovation at Air France KLM, said: “We are proud to be one of the first airline groups to join Winding Tree to develop blockchain technology. With a long-standing commitment to innovation with start-ups and partners, Air France KLM is constantly creating the future of travel and devising solutions to make the travel experience easier and more personalised. With blockchain technology, we aim to revolutionise exchanges within the travel industry for our customers, companies and start-ups.”

Pedro Anderson, founder and COO of Winding Tree, added: “The Air France KLM group has built a reputation when it comes to using technology to enhance the customer experience. We are excited to join them in their goal and commitment towards becoming the leading airline in customer intimacy and we are excited to bring blockchain technology as the tool needed to achieve real innovation and enhanced customer satisfaction.”
