Flight Centre, owner FCm Travel Solutions, has made its first purchase in the American market.
The company has paid $9m for Bannockburn Travel Management (BTM) which is based in Chicago, employs 80 people in the mid-west and last year handled transactions worth $93m.
The company was founded in1987 by Joe Mazza who will continue to run the business for the next three years at least.
BTM is the Flight Centre’s 11th acquisition in the corporate market, following purchases in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, India and a joint venture in China.
It has also signed partners in countries across Europe including Ireland, Spain, Belgium and Italy as part of its strategy to grow its corporate business globally.
Anthony Grigson, FCm’s executive general manager, said: “This acquisition is an important next step in creating an extensive network of FCm Travel Solutions offices across the major commercial hubs of The Americas.
“It will give us greater presence in the mid-west, while we continue to pursue opportunities for potential representation on the east coast.
“Our future acquisitions will be part of our continuing expansion across the US, Asia-Pacific and EMEA regions, and geared towards matching the needs of our national, regional and multinational clients.”
