Air France KLM to implement GDS surcharge

Air France KLM

Air France KLM has announced that it will introduce an €11 (£10) distribution surcharge on GDS bookings starting on April 1, 2018.

The airline group says it is implementing the charge “in order to adapt to market circumstances and to further improve its efficiency”. Air France KLM says it will not apply to travel agency sales via an NDC connection.

Air France KLM put forward the plan in its third quarter results, which show the group saw a nearly 39 per cent increase in operating profits to just over Є1 billion and a 5.1 per cent rise in passenger numbers. Profit for the whole of 2017 is expected to be positive, according to a statement.

The group’s Flying Blue loyalty programme will also see an overhaul, which will allow members to earn miles for every euro spent from April 1, 2018. Air France KLM says limitations on spending air miles will be lifted from June 2018 and members will be able to use their miles to book any flight on Air France, KLM, HOP!, Joon and Transavia.
