Budget hotel chain Premier Inn has enjoyed a 17.7 per cent rise in sales at its London properties over the last six months as it has expanded in the UK capital.

Results from parent company Whitbread showed that Premier Inn’s total sales were up by 12.1 per cent between February and August as the hotel chain continued to expand across the UK. The number of total room nights sold rose 10.7 per cent to 7.2 million for the same period.

Much of this growth was driven by a strong performance in London where Premier Inn benefited from a “higher proportion of rooms in central London”.

Over the last three months, the hotel brand has increased the number of rooms in London by 11.9 per cent compared to same period in 2012.

Across the UK, Premier Inn has added 11 hotels and 1,270 rooms to its portfolio since February and is still on track to open around 4,000 rooms during the current financial year which runs until February 28, 2014.

Andy Harrison, Whitbread’s chief executive, said: “We are on track with our annual plan and our ambitious five year growth milestones.”

Whitbread’s other major brand is high street coffee chain Costa and it also owns pub restaurant group Brewers Fayre.
