Nearly of half of UK companies (48%) now use serviced apartments for long term stays, relocation or temporary assignments as hotels rates continue to rise.

This was a key finding in the first Global Serviced Apartments Survey 2008.

Worldwide the poll found that 72% of companies use serviced apartments rather than hotels for long term stays of seven or more nights.

The survey said that a majority of agents (67%) were now dealing with a “significant” increase in bookings for services departments.

The poll was conducted by The Apartment Service among 20,000 bookers, travel management company executives and apartment operators worldwide.

Among the other findings were that location was the most important factor in selecting accommodation and that space and comfort were the biggest influences on the clients looking for suitable apartments.

But 67% also cited the ability to make bookings themselves rather than go through a third party.

Charles McCrow, The Apartment Service’s managing director, said: “Serviced apartments are still something of an unknown quantity for many corporate buyers.”
