Lufthansa Group has announced the appointment of Dr Alexis von Hoensbroech as the new chief executive officer of Austrian Airlines, effective 1 August.

Von Hoensbroech is currently chief commercial officer of Lufthansa Cargo and will replace Kay Kratky, who is stepping down in July.

Von Hoensbroech joined Lufthansa Group in 2005 and has worked his way up the ranks, having worked closely with Kratky in previous roles. He holds a doctorate in astrophysics.

The group says the appointment still needs approval from the supervisory board of Austrian Airlines.

Dorothea von Boxberg, currently head of global sales management at Lufthansa Cargo, will succeed von Hoensbroech as CCO, subject to board approval.

Harry Hohmeister, chairman of the supervisory board of Austrian Airlines, commented: “I am pleased to propose to the supervisory board to approve the appointment of Alexis as the successor of Kay Kratky and thus the CEO of Austrian Airlines. Alexis has the perfect know-how to lead Austrian Airlines in the next phase and establish it as a profitable premium carrier in the highly competitive Austrian market.”
