LNER4Business, the SME platform for London North Eastern Railway (LNER), has partnered with Seatfrog to enable business passengers to bid on last-minute upgrades to First Class.
The company partnered with Seatfrog last year when it was known as Virgin Trains East Coast, but it says the latest move will allow more passengers to take advantage of the upgrade opportunity.
Seatfrog works by creating a bidding system for unsold First Class seats, with passengers able to submit their bids from 24 hours before departure, with the auction ending 30 minutes prior to the train leaving its originating station.
Those who bid successfully for LNER upgrades will be able to utilise First Class amenities such as complimentary food and drink, reclining leather seats, additional legroom, free wifi and, at select stations, the First Class lounges, also with free Wireless free internet access and refreshments.
Last-minute upgrades through Seatfrog are available on LNER services from Monday to Friday for journeys between King’s Cross and Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh and York, as well as stations in between (for example Doncaster to Wakefield Westgate).

Plus, the live bidding element means you can decide at the last minute and, if you do, bidding to bag a bargain is a great way to go about it.”
