American Express Global Business Travel (GBT) has today received approval from the European Commission to go ahead with its acquisition of Hogg Robinson Group (HRG).

The sale was announced in February and was expected to be completed in the second quarter after it was given the green light in Russia and the US, but the deal faced a delay in getting approval from EU competition authorities.

The deal is now expected to be completed on 19 July, at which point HRG’s CEO David Radcliffe will be appointed to the Amex GBT board.

HRG, which landed a place as a supplier of online and offline travel services to central government departments in March, was ranked as the third-largest TMC in BBT’s 2018 edition of the 50 Leading TMCs, while Amex GBT was the second-largest.
