Travelodge unveils 'Premium Economy' category

Travelodge has unveiled a new room category in selected properties featuring extra amenities.

The budget group has added the new “Super Room” to four London hotels – Waterloo, Euston, Farringdon and City Road – plus, from May 19, Heathrow Central. They represent about 20-25 per cent of room stock in those properties.

By autumn it will have about 1,000 of the rooms across 17 hotels, including further locations in the capital as well as Heathrow T5, Gatwick and Bath.

The company is targeting business travellers with the rooms, which cost about £15-£20 more than a standard guestroom. Located on quieter “business floors”, they have a more residential feel, with a subtler blue and grey colour scheme, and herringbone-patterned curtains and bed throws replacing the stripes found in standard rooms.

There are extra plug sockets and USB ports by the bedside and desk, as well as mood lighting controlled by a bedside control panel. The desk is set up with a swivel chair and reading lamp, and there is also an armchair.

Rooms come with Lavazza coffee machines, open-plan wardrobe areas with a drawer, iron and ironing boards, hairdryers by full-length mirrors, and more powerful showerheads. Hot chocolate sachets and a complimentary Kit Kat are provided, and guests can choose from firm or soft hypo-allergenic pillows.

The rooms were designed in partnership with agency Honour, which has worked with British Airways on its Concorde bar at Dubai International airport, and with Etihad on the forthcoming Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi.

The London Farringdon hotel is now also sporting a refreshed bar-café with a range of seating areas for relaxing, dining and working.
