Garuda Indonesia is to formally enter the Skyteam airline alliance in spring 2014.
The carrier will become Skyteam’s second member in south-east Asia – after Vietnam Airlines – when it joins on March 5, 2014.
Garuda currently flies to six Skyteam hubs: Seoul, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Amsterdam. It is also due to start flights from Gatwick to Jakarta in May 2014.
Michael Wisbrun, Skyteam’s managing director, said: “Garuda is on target to meet all the membership criteria required by Skyteam, including implementing a new IT platform and customer-focused initiatives.”
Garuda’s CEO Emirsyah Satar added: “Joining Skyteam marks another significant milestone in the company’s development, as we are now entering the stage of being a global player.
“This is part of our strategy to extend our network worldwide while at the same time improving our service.”
