Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed the pay-as-you-go fares for the Elizabeth line, which is set to open from this December.
While fares in Zones 1-6 will be the same as the equivalent Tube fare, the peak price to get from Zone 1 to Heathrow airport will be £12.10, and £10.10 for off-peak travel with a daily cap of £12.50. While this is 60p cheaper than the current Heathrow Connect service, it is £7 more than the equivalent Tube journey on the Piccadilly line.
TfL will be taking over Heathrow Connect from May in preparation for the Elizabeth line to replace the service.
While it’s disappointing news for travellers that the fares will be more expensive than taking the Tube, the service will still be faster and passengers will be able to use their Oyster or contactless card rather than buying a ticket.
