Michael Achenbaum (pictured), the founder of New York-based Gansevoort Hotel Group, will start work on a new property in London’s Shoreditch area early next year.
The entrepreneur has announced plans to develop a £60 million, full-service “urban resort” with 120 rooms, including seven suites. The name of the hotel has yet to be decided.
The Shoreditch hotel will feature a restaurant, a split-level bar, a 24-hour fitness centre, a heated rooftop swimming pool and a lounge.
More than 550 square metres will be dedicated to meeting rooms and events areas, while the local street art scene will influence the hotel’s design, added Achenbaum.
The development is due to begin in spring next year with the hotel’s opening scheduled for 2015.
Gansevoort has two hotels in New York City and another resort in the Turks and Caicos islands in the Caribbean.
Fellow US group Ace Hotels opened its first London property in Shoreditch in October.
