British Airways has signed up to the TSA Precheck programme, which provides eligible passengers with faster security checks on flights from the US.
Passengers who are accepted under the scheme can use fast-track security queues and do not need to remove shoes, light jackets, or belts. Laptops and compliant liquids can also remain in hand luggage.
In March, TSA research revealed 93 per cent of customers using Precheck waited on average less than five minutes at security.
BA will now be able to offer passengers flying from its US destinations – both direct flights and those included in its codeshare agreement with American Airlines – the ability to register for TSA Precheck.
Approval requires passengers to register for the Global Entry programme, which involves an interview, background check and fingerprint scan.
