Flydubai aircraft crashes in Russia killing 62

A Flydubai aircraft has crashed in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don killing all 62 passengers and crew on board.

The Boring 737-800 aircraft missed the runway as it attempted to land in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the reasons for the crash but high winds and poor visibility are being considered factors.

"The aircraft hit the ground and broke into pieces," the Investigative Committee of Russia said in a statement on its website. "According to preliminary data, there were 55 passengers aboard and 7 crew members. They all died."

According to local reports the majority of passengers were Russian.

FlyDubai, a low cost carrier launched in 2009 with a hub in Dubai, operates flights to some 90 destinations.
