Following its agreement to rebrand and operate Principal and De Vere properties, Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced its first Kimpton hotel in the UK will open in late October.
The property is currently operated as the Principal London, but will be rebranded to the Kimpton Fitzroy London.
Located in Russell Square, the hotel was originally opened in 1898. The rebranding reflects the name of the building’s architect, Charles Fitzroy Doll. His name will also be used at the property’s bar, Fitz’s (pictured).
Earlier this year, IHG and Covivio entered into an agreement to rebrand and operate 12 Principal and De Vere properties. The Kimpton Fitzroy London is the first included in the agreement to be renamed, with further rebranding due in 2019 in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester, among other locations.
The Principal London opened its doors in April this year following an extensive refurbishment.
The US-based Kimpton brand, which was acquired by IHG in 2015, entered the UK market in 2017 with the opening of the Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam. It currently operates 67 hotels in the US, Caribbean and Europe.
