Brussels Airlines has launched a new Economy Light hand baggage-only fare option on flights to North America.
The carrier says the fares are the cheapest option for those who do not need ticket flexibility. However, passengers can still pay an extra fee to check in a piece of luggage, reserve a specific seat or book other ancillary items.
Routes offering Economy Light fares include New York, Washington DC and Toronto. Tickets are also available through the airline’s joint venture partners United and Air Canada.
Brussels Airlines joins its fellow carriers Austrian, Lufthansa and Swiss in adding a hand baggage-only transatlantic fare option.
Dirk Janzen, VP of pricing and revenue management, distribution and commercial steering at Brussels Airlines, commented: “The new Economy Light fare is a further development of our efforts to offer individualised solutions to cater to the needs of our different types of guests. It is a logical step after having introduced a similar hand luggage-only fare on our European routes in 2014. From now on, guests on our North American destinations will be able to only pay for the product they actually use.”
