Following a test phase on transatlantic flights from Scandinavia, Lufthansa Group will roll out ‘Light’ hand baggage only fares to North America across many of its airlines this summer.
Lufthansa, Swiss, Brussels Airlines and Austrian Airlines will all begin offering the least expensive option, which does not include checked bags and offers no ticket flexibility. Passengers who wish to add a piece of luggage or choose their seats will have to pay an extra fee, but in-flight meals and drinks will continue to be included in the price of the ticket.
Last month, BBT heard that discounts of up to €20 for return fares would apply to the group’s ‘best available’ economy fares from its German hubs. TMCs and agencies can access these fares through Lufthansa’s New Distribution Capability - a new system of technology standards to allow the distribution of airfares and ancillaries through third parties which is being developed by airline association IATA with... web platform SPRK.
