Virgin Trains East Coast has partnered with Enterprise Car Club to offer vehicles at stations along the mainline route.

While car rental companies have long had presence at large UK stations, this deal will see vehicles located at smaller cities including Wakefield, Durham, Peterborough and Doncaster – Enterprise plans to extend the venture to other stations along the line in the near future.

The Car Club offers cars and vans for hire by the hour or day. After joining, customers reserve their vehicle online and unlock it via the app or members card – other car rental firms offer similar services.

Dan Gursel, Enterprise Car Club, managing director, said: “Integrating with key transport hubs is the next evolution of car clubs. They are quickly becoming the go-to option for people who want fast, easy access to a vehicle, wherever they are and at any time.

“This makes car clubs an excellent option for the increasing number of people who want to ‘train/drive’ as a logical solution for sustainable business and leisure travel.”
