Air India has announced it will introduce a twice weekly non-stop service to Amritsar from Birmingham airport starting on 20 February.
The airline claims the route will be the UK’s only direct service to Amritsar and says it complements the existing Delhi service, which started in August 2013. It says the route offers direct access to the major Punjabi commercial centre.
Flights will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing Birmingham at 1845 and landing in Amritsar at 0745 the following day. The return service departs Amritsar at 1355 and arrives in Birmingham at 1715 the same day.
The service will operate on board a Boeing 787-8 aircraft with 18 lie-flat business class seats and 238 economy seats.
Vishwanath Panyam, senior assistant, general manager at Air India, commented: “This service is in response to long-standing demands between the Punjab and the Midlands. We expect this flight to be very popular and may lead to future growth.”
