Corporate card firm Airplus has launched a new product aimed at the meetings and events industry.
The company has unveiled a service which provides single-use virtual cards to enable buyers to track total spending on single meetings or events.
Airplus’ UK managing director Yael Klein said: “Travel buyers have said that there is an increasing need to track, control and optimise MICE spend.”
The Germany-based firm conducted a survey which found that 85 per cent of UK buyers expected spending on meetings to either increase (19 per cent) or stay the same (66 per cent) this year – above the European and global averages of 79 per cent and 82 per cent respectively.
“The vast majority finally want to tackle that spend and really look into it so they can negotiate with suppliers,” added Klein.
“That’s why we have decided to launch our Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions product this year. This event solution is based on our virtual card solution – any supplier who accepts Mastercard will be able to be paid with this.”
The Airplus Event Solution, which is being aimed at event management companies, enables clients to avoid paying suppliers for upfront costs as everything is charged back to one centrally billed lodge account with all data then consolidated on to a single invoice.
Klein said: “We are seeing here in the UK that those responsible for managing travel are more often trying to get a handle on the event piece.
“We believe this presents an opportunity for travel managers to begin to truly control their meetings and events spend, through better insight and analysis tools.”
