Etihad Airways has introduced a new baggage policy based on weight rather than the number of bags checked in.

The changes, which do not apply for flights from the US or Canada, allow customers to check-in up to 23kg of baggage for Economy Deal tickets, 30kg for Economy Saver and Classic fares and 35kg for Economy Flex. Passengers in Business are allowed 40kg, while those in first can bring up to 50kg. Those in the Residence onboard the A380 fleet are allowed up to four bags at 32kg each.

The airline says Etihad Guest Silver, Gold and Platinum members will still have access to complimentary baggage allowance of 32kg on US and Canada routes, or 10kg, 15kg and 20kg on all other routes, respectively.

Mohammah Al Bulooki, executive vice president of commercial at Etihad Airways, said: “In line with global best practice and market trends, Etihad Airways has developed a baggage policy that best caters to the differing needs of our guests around the world.”
