BCD Travel is taking a majority stake in Japanese partner Hitachi Travel Bureau.

The deal gives BCD a controlling interest in its operations in Japan with Kazuhiko Otani, currently president of Hitachi Travel Bureau, remaining as president and managing director for BCD in Japan.

Greg O’Neil, BCD’s president of Asia Pacific, said the investment was a “reflection of our commitment to Asia Pacific”.

“As the majority stakeholder in our Japan venture with our trusted partner Hitachi Travel Bureau, we look forward to enhancing our product and service offerings for both global and local clients in this key market,” he added.

Hitachi Travel Bureau, which employs 280 employees across its offices in Japan and China, has annual sales of more than US$330 million.

BCD Travel has been expanding across the world in recent years with a series of acquisitions including UK event agencies Grass Roots Meetings & Events and Zibrant.
