Gatwick airport has resumed flights after an issue with its air traffic control systems forced it to shut its runway.

The airport worked with Air Navigation Solutions to rectify the issue and re-opened its airspace at about 2040 last night.

However, passengers due to fly to or from the airport today are advised to check the status of their flight with their airline or Gatwick’s website, as the cancellations and rerouting of flights could cause knock-on delays if any aircraft have ended up at different hubs.

The suspension follows the recent cancellation of train services to the airport following the derailment of an engineering train on Monday.
