Ryanair announced new routes to Bucharest and Vilnius from Southend on the same day as rival low-cost carrier Wizz Air revealed it would start flying the same services from the airport this November.
Wizz Air announced on Thursday that it would begin flying from Southend to Bucharest five times a week on 22 November and Vilnius twice a week on 23 November.
Now Ryanair says it will operate competing flights to Bucharest five times a week and Vilnius three times a week starting in November.
Ryanair has also recently announced flights from Tbilisi to Milan Bergamo and from Kutaisi (Georgia) to Bologna (which Wizz Air has also announced) and Marseille.
Chief commercial officer David O’Brien commented: “Ryanair is pleased to continue its Central and Eastern European expansion…”
