The board of South African Airways (SAA) has announced the appointment of Zuks Ramasia as the acting chief executive officer for the airline as of 10 June.

Ramasia (pictured, far left) is currently general manager for operations at SAA. She was part of a senior delegation who recently flew to London from Johannesburg to meet with UK trade and key stakeholders.

Previous CEO Vuyani Jarana, who announced his resignation on 2 June, will stay on with the airline to provide transitional support to the board and management for the duration of his notice period.

SAA says its board is in ongoing discussions with the Department of Public Enterprises, National Treasury and financial institutions to put in place a financial structure to support “the long-term sustainability of the company”.
