Travellers are being warned that trains running to and from Victoria station in London are likely to be disrupted until the end of the day after an engineering train derailed early this morning.

The train partly left the tracks between Victoria and Clapham Junction at about 0300, according to Network Rail. It is blocking several sections of track, meaning platforms nine to 13 are out of service.

Network Rail is working to remove the train, but it is likely the tracks need to be repaired. National Rail says disruption could continue until the end of the day “due to the complexity of this issue”.

As a result, there are no Gatwick Express trains running and Southern says its services are likely to be “severely reduced” throughout the day with fewer trains operating. Some services will be cancelled or delayed, while others may be diverted via London Bridge.

Passengers are being advised to expect trains to be busier than usual and to use alternative routes where possible.

Some Southern services will call at additional stations throughout the day.
